Welcome to Bayou Soccer!
What you will find here is a collection of soccer training sessions that I have developed and used. I will post the sessions and what worked what didn't and how the kids liked them. I will post training sessions after I have run them and as soon as I can get them typed up into blog posts. I hope this site will be a resource where soccer coaches can come together and share the experience of coaching soccer in South Louisiana but if it turns out to be just another way for me to boost my own ego that’s fine too (although I probably don’t need anything to boost my ego).
About the Coach
Bayou Soccer is the brainchild of John Dempsey. John is a Staff Coach and Trainer at Mandeville Soccer Club in Mandeville, LA. and Head Coach of the Northlake Christian School Lady Wolverines in Covington, LA. John grew up in Mandeville and played soccer at MSC and The Saint Paul's School in Covington, LA as a youth. At some point during his childhood, he got the idea jammed in his head that he wanted to play college soccer, a dream he accomplished during his freshman and sophomore years at Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL. After his sophomore year, John decided to walk away from the game owing to injury and a desire to be a normal college student.
After being away from soccer for approximately, 7 years he found himself “back home” in Mandeville and teaching at his high school Alma Mater, The Saint Paul's School, in Covington. Shortly before the school year started, John received a phone call from longtime Saint Paul’s Coach, Trevor Watkins. This phone call marked John’s return to the beautiful game and a rekindling of his love for the sport of his youth. Since this time, he has coached a trained a number of teams as well as worked several local summer and winter soccer camps with no plans to ever walk away from the game of soccer again.
John wrote this intro with facebook statuses in mind where people refer to themselves in third person on a regular basis and don’t think a thing about it. John finds this hilarious.
